RC STICKEEN. by John Muir.
First edition of this classic "icy storm-story" impression of 1912 of the first edition of 1909, dedicated to Muir's daughter, Helen, "lover of wildness". This is John Muir's story of a dog named Stickeen (after a tribe of Indians at Fort Wrangel, Alaska [now Wrangell) with whom a bond of exploration and appreciation developed as they together explored wilds of Alaska,culminating in a life-threatening episode during a storm while exploring the Brady Glacier in what is now Glacier Bay National Park. Francis H. Allen wrote in a preface to one of the many issues of this book, "Stickeen is one of the best dog stories ever written,..[I]t opens a window into the heart and soul of a dog, so that we can see how much like a man he is in some respects and can sympathize with him." Published by Houghton Mifflin Company of Boston and New York. Size is 4 3/4 in. by 7.5 in., cloth bound in tan covers with title and author's name printed on front cover and on spine. 74 pages plus front matter.
Condition: Acceptable. Library sticker on front cover; covers somewhat soiled. Library labels and stamp on inside front and inside back covers plus embossed impressions on title page. No markings on pages and no lloose pages, binding strong; slight soiling on covers; minor fraying at top and bottom of spine. An ex-library copy from The Library Company of Philadelphia.
